Numbers-24
"A Dblessing for Your Land": A Devotional Study on Numbers 24
Introduction
The Book of Numbers chronicles Israel's wanderings in the desert for forty years. Amidst the tumultuous events, we encounter a humble prophet named Balaam, whom God used to pronounce blessings on Israel. In Numbers 24, Balaam’s prophetic words offer profound spiritual insights that we can apply to our lives today.
Section 1: Blessings for Israel (Numbers 24:1-14)
Devotional Thought: Balaam blesses the people of Israel with multiple “set-apartnesses” (v. 5). He speaks of Israel being a “people saved by the Lord” and as a “nation with a calling to bless” (v. 20). As we reflect on these blessings, we are reminded of our salvation and the calling placed upon us to be a blessing to others. Remember the boundless nature of God's blessings today.
Reflection Questions:
- How do you see the blessings of salvation and calling in your life?
- In what ways can you partner with God to become a blessing to others?
Section 2: Blessings for Jacob/Israel (Numbers 24:15-19)
Devotional Thought: Balaam uses a poem to praise Israel, referred to as Jacob. He speaks of Jacob as a “people filled with God's Spirit,” as “ruling nations” and as a “mighty prince”. These divine characteristics should deeply resonate within us, remembering the holy influence of the Holy Spirit and the power of our King, Jesus, in our lives. Recall these blessings today.
Reflection Questions:
- How do you recognize the Holy Spirit's influence in your life?
- In what ways do you walk in the power of Jesus as a "mighty prince"?
Section 3: Blessings for King Agag (Numbers 24:20-24)
Devotional Thought: Balaam moves away from traditional blessing-pronouncements and speaks prophetically of king Agag’s downfall. We too can prophetically speak over righteous leaders and declare they will be victorious in spirit and in truth against the wiles of the enemy in our world today. May our prayer language be bold and prophetic.
Reflection Questions:
- Who are righteous leaders that you stand behind and want to bless with your prophetic voice?
- How does your prayer language reflect the courage and boldness to stand behind righteous leaders in our world today?
Conclusion:
Numbers 24 teaches us that God’s blessings are seven-fold. As we walk in the knowledge of God's holiness and faithfulness, let us confidently declare blessings and prophetic prayers over righteous leaders and our world today. May our lives be filled with the blessed teachings of this chapter and a daily assurance of God's crown of blessings for us too.
